How do I apply for tax-exempt status?Updated 4 months ago
If you are buying on behalf of a school, church, or other tax-exempt organization, you can set up your Alfred.com account to ensure sales tax is not applied to your orders.
Important: You must complete the steps below before placing your order. We are unable to automatically refund sales tax on purchases made prior to account approval.
How to Request Tax Exemption
Step 1: Create an Account
If you don't already have one, create a standard individual account on Alfred.com. Be sure to use the exact email address you intend to use for all future institutional purchases.
Step 2: Submit Your Documentation
Once your account is created, visit our official Tax Exemption Portal and fill out the form. You will need to provide:
Your First & Last Name
Your Organization's Name
Your Tax Identification Number (TIN/EIN)
Your Alfred.com account email address
A digital copy of your valid Tax Exemption Certificate (uploaded in PDF or JPG format)
Step 3: Wait for Confirmation
Our customer service team will review your certificate. Please allow 1–2 business days for processing.
Once approved, you will receive a confirmation email letting you know your account has been updated with tax-exempt status. Any subsequent orders placed while logged into that account will automatically remove sales tax at checkout.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
I already placed an order and was charged tax. Can you refund it?
If your order has already been processed, we cannot retroactively remove the tax. Please fill out the tax exemption form immediately so your account is set up correctly for all future purchases.
Does setting up a School PO Account automatically make me tax-exempt?
No. While you can upload your certificate when applying for a School Purchase Order account, filling out the dedicated Tax Exemption Form ensures your individual email login is instantly coded as tax-free across the entire website, whether paying via PO or credit card.
